Fuxia — Paris, Saint-Paul

Friday, July 24th, 2009

A fairly good Italian restaurant in the center of Paris, I’d say mainly for pasta.

50 rue François Miron

75004 Paris

Google Maps

We started with a plate of antipasti (11 euros) that we shared between two people:

Nothing amazing, but they were nicely seasoned and tender (the vegetables in the dark are dried tomatoes). Then, two plates of pasta, the Fusili Fuxia (12 euros):

and the Rigatoni Funghi (11 euros):

On the whole it’s a pretty safe choice, but if you don’t need to be in this particular place of Paris I’d rather recommend “Little Italy” (search on this same website), where I find the pasta slightly better even though Fuxia’s environment is a bit nicer (bigger terrace, more spacious).

Italian Kitchen & Cafe Marinara — Tokyo, Monzen Nakacho

An (unexpected) Italian restaurant in a not-that-international district of Tokyo.

Google Maps

We started with a salad (green salad, tomatoes, parmigiano, 800 yen):

which was simple but good. Then the “oiru pasta” (1200 yen, see below for the name),

which also came with some green salad:

We had hoped that the name (oiru: oil) was merely indicating the presence of a little bit of olive oil. Las, the pasta was actually in the middle of a fairly oily sauce. They did taste nice though, but were a bit undercooked. The pizza “Bismarck” (at least that’s what I tried to infer from the Japanese name, 1500 yen) was a much better surprise:

It was fairly large and surprisingly good in such a place. Crusty dough, tasty ingredients. One could have said that the not-so-well-cooked egg white was questionable but it was explicitly mentioned on the menu (“half-cooked egg”) and I’m fine with that. So congratulations to the two pizzaiolas (also a nice surprise, most — if not all — the pizzaiolos I’ve ever seen were males) whom we could see hard at work from our table:

Tre Cucine — Zurich

An Italian restaurant in Zurich.

Niederdorfstrasse 33

8001 Zürich, Switzerland

Google Maps

(Sorry, only low quality phone pictures for this one):

The surroundings are rather comfortable, especially in this early summer.

Pasta is around 20 – 25 Swiss Francs (CHF), same for pizza, meat dishes around 35 CHF, salads around 12 CHF. The insalata mista (10 CHF) was rather disappointing:

Spaghetti Al Capone (smoked ham, egg, onions, asparagus, cream — large, 24.50 CHF) was quite good for such a strange name:

I had the pizza quattro stagioni (23 CHF), sorry for the  bad picture:

and I must say it was better than expected. Not the best I know, but the ingredients were tasty, dough was crusty, thin, salty just the way it should. Maybe a bit too heavy on oregano though.

50 cl San Pellegrino: 6 CHF.  They have a nice flat screen, it might be a good place to watch a game if you’re into sports:

Pizza Marinara — Paris, Odéon

A real good Italian pizzeria in the center of Paris.

46 rue Dauphine

75006 Paris, France

Google Maps

I’ve seen cheaper, but the pizzas are especially well made and tasty. “Pizza du chef” (11 euros) with cheese, ham and an egg:

Pizza mollicone” (12 euros), with cheese, meat, egg and merguez sausage (oops, slightly blurry):

If you’re on a diet you could also try the “Salade del Contadino” (13 euros):

but you really should get a pizza (the ham in here is pretty good, but it hides quite a lot of green salad under a thin layer!). Some pictures of the menu:

Little Italy — Paris, Montorgueil

This is the best place I know for Pasta in Paris (at least up till now!).

92 rue Montorgueil

75002 Paris, France

We tried the Penne Max (13 euros, with red peppers, tomatoes, basil):

and the Lasagne di Carne (13 euros):

These were really tasty, very good ingredients, perfectly cooked, plus this street is one of my favorites in Paris.

Update: a few other pictures/dishes from later visits. Rigatoni all’Amatriciana (14 euros):

Fusili Funghi (12 euros):

Insalata Italiana (12 euros):

… and yet a few more (same price range):

Plate of antipasti:

Penne alla carbonara:

Rigatoni alla mantovana (pumpkin):
